Becoming a high school teacher was not going to be enough...

Dr. Steve Niemiec

After student teaching and taking classes towards a masters degree in education, I kept thinking about how spinal adjustments helped me without drugs or surgery. I was working in one of Buffalo's largest chiropractic offices. Week after week, I would teach health and wellness classes about how health and healing comes from within each and every one of us (an innate response), and yet Americans continue to look for outside quick fix remedies for health. Could I be the only one who experiences the side affects listed on the labels of medications? I kept thinking that chiropractic care has a positive side affect... improved function of the body... naturally.

So, my education shifted to the sciences like anatomy, physiology, chemistry and physics. I chose Sherman College in South Carolina because if its vitalistic philosophy about health and wellness. After graduating in September of 2001 with honors and receiving both the Milton W. Garfunkel Award, the highest award given at graduation and the Clinical Excellence Award for patient care, I set my endeavors on helping Dr. Kevin Phalen with developing and opening up a new concept in health care called Balanced Living Chiropractic Wellness in Buffalo New York.

Yes, Balanced Living Chiropractic Wellness is the name of our Amherst office, but it’s also a health and wellness philosophy too. We understand that people often seek us out for help after they lose their health by being OUT of BALANCE either physically, mentally, or chemically.

This happens often by either over-doing life or under-doing life. i.e. physical injury, stressed out can be over-doing life. On the other hand, inactivity, not caring about important matters can be under-doing life.

We address this by listening to you and your concerns and then apply it to our spinal specific adjusting technique and customized/personalized care plan centered more on Wellness Care than Relief Care.

When not at work, I am involved in several community social and professional organizations. I am a board member of the New York Chiropractic Council in Western New York District 8. I am also a member of the International Chiropractors Association.

Depending on the time of the year I can be found playing racquetball at the Northeast Family YMCA in Amherst. Over the past three years, I have worked up to the A League level of play for an intense cardio workout. Summer work out activities include 5K races starting with the Corporate Challenge in Delaware Park along with our patients to raise money for various charities. Our official charity at Balanced Living Chiropractic Wellness is the New York State Special Olympics.

In the winter, downhill skiing with my family at Holiday Valley sure does help the winter go by fast. I had the opportunity to teach a good majority of my family how to downhill ski and they still talk to me! And yes of course with all this physical activity our family comes in our office to get checked for subluxations regularly. They tell me they love having a doctor of chiropractic in the family.

Enough about me! How can we help you with today’s safe and natural chiropractic care? Give us a call or email me by using the link below, so we can help you take your first step towards better health.

Dr. Steve Asks some important questions of interest to Buffalo residents - Chiropractor Buffalo Dr. Steve Asks...

How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
